Aan de Doorns Co-operative Winery
Owner: Bottega family
Wine Maker: Reino Thiart
Part of the Bottega Family Wine Portfolio, Whalehaven makes fine wines that comprise a selection of varietals that are vinified in a classic, French style. These refined wines are made at the family-owned cellar in Hermanus. Alberto Bottega guides the wine-making process and business alongside winemaker Reino Thiart. The wine is given its name from the sea-side town nearby Walker Bay that is a haven for migrating whales - and visiting tourists - over the winter period. Whalehaven Wines also regularly supports Whale Saving initiatives in the Western Cape. Whalehaven is well regarded for its earthy, Burgundian styled Pinot Noir, and has recently won a Gold Veritas for its Merlot 2007 that has only just been released. The Viognier-Chardonnay Blend and Chardonnay tantalize the palates of white wine drinkers. The W Range, with its unique circular label includes a red blend called Crushed Velvet and a Rose called Strawberry Fields. The Bottega Family Wine Portfolio also includes: Idiom, Enoteca Bottega. The wines stemming from the Portfolio have received numerous accolades.
