Avontuur Wine and Thoroughbred Estate is situated on the south-western slopes of the Helderberg on  the R44 road which connects Somerset West and Stellenbosch, in South Africa's  prime wine growing district. 
 
Avontuur consists of 100 ha vineyards and produces approximately 450 tons of grapes annually. Wine maker, Natalie Nel and wine advisor Charl Theron were appointed on 1 October 2008.
 
 The vineyards are planted with 65% red varietals and 35% white varietals. The reds include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinotage, Pinot Noir and Shiraz.  The whites include Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.
