A highly awarded Chenin blanc produced from low-yielding bush vines that have an average age of about 45 years old. Bold layers of tropical fruit and melon flavours that rest comfortably and refreshingly on the nose and palate. The subtle sweetness of honey suckle combines artfully with the distinctive fruitiness, while vanilla oak spice and a long finish of crushed wheat and oatmeal, exempts this wine from others.
From Bellingham Wines comes the wonderfully expressive Whole Bunch Roussanne, made from hand-selected grapes that have been whole bunch pressed to extract delicate varietal flavours. After cold fermentation a small portion of the wine is matured in second and third fill French oak barrels, imparting it with wonderful structure and balance. Bright pineapple and kiwi fruit aromas are immediately forthcoming on the nose, followed by an intriguing herbaceous profile of fragrant fynbos and herbal tea flavours that perform with elegant restraint on the palate. This elegant wine rounds off its palate-pleasing performance with a long, honey-toned finish.
The prestige of this Bellingham The Bernard Series Basket Press Syrah/Shiraz was confirmed when the 2013 vintage made it into the Top 4 at the Shiraz SA Wine Challenge.
This wine is aromatic in the most commanding manner, yet still refined, with an abundance of white and black pepper spice and a touch of dark chocolate. This follows through onto a palate with a backbone of mulberry and blackberry fruit, laced with floral notes of dried fynbos and violets.
Firm, grippy tannins mean this wine can be cellared for up to 10 years.
