WHITE BLEND WINES
Years of dedication from wine-makers has led to South Africa’s own unique and complex blend of white wines. The ultimate goal of blending wines is to create a wholly new and magnificent well-balanced combination of wine. Expertly blending the perfect white wines is a difficult process needing skill garnered through experience as white blending is more complex to red blends due to the delicate nature of each wine.
Two main white wine blends have emerged with prominence in South Africa. The first blend namely being the zesty herbed citrus Sauvignon Blanc and the powerful Semillon aged in French oak barrels. The latter is more unusual, varieties involve the main component of Chenin Blanc and Rhône varieties including Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Marsanne, and Rousanne. This Chenin Blanc blend was created due to a surplus in Swartland wines that were not suitable for single-varieties.
