Boekenhoutskloof
The Chocolate Block
2015

The Chocolate Block from Boekenhoutskloof is one of South Africa's icons that makes a sought-after gift or an addition to your wine cellar. It is an international favourite. This 2015 vintage is unique in the sense that all the grapes for the blend are now grown in the Swartland. The nose is exceptionally intense and complex with red berry fruit juxtaposed against a dark, brooding fruit compote and Swartland violets. The nose exudes aromas of raspberry, mulberry, blackberry, damson, dark chocolate and liquorice with whiffs of cloves, nutmeg and orange rind. The wine has a soft, smooth entry, a rich mid-palate and the abundance of red and black berry fruit on the nose follows through with balanced acidity and svelte cocoa powdery tannins. The Porseleinberg fruit certainly makes an impact to the blend, lending structure and a piercing yet lifted perfume. The wine has a long, lingering finish reminiscent of Swiss dark hazelnut chocolate

This blend is really nice. Plenty spiced fruit, some chocolate and very smooth. I suspect I can get similar wines for far less though.

Absolutely love my choc block with a well prepared fillet steak and green madagascar peppercorn sauce and rosemary scented potato cubes.

Hmm. Remeber the first time I tasted. Liked it better then but I hope it will be better with the years.
get the feeling that both nose & palate will open up more over next 3-4 yrs . promising complexity & pleasure.
