South Africa’s most highly-rated Bordeaux blend, MR de Compostella, has received 95 and 96 points from the Wine Advocate in the last 4 vintages. ‘Bruwer Raats may well be the most exciting and forward-thinking winemaker in Stellenbosch at the moment. No…make that IS the most exciting and forward-thinking winemaker,‘ says Neal Martin of the Wine Advocate.
Bruwer says this 2013 vintage reminds him of the (epic) 2008 MR de Compostella. I say ‘epic’ as the 2008 was the first South African red wine to be rated 96 points by The Wine Advocate. The Wine Advocate also selected it as one of the 50 most memorable wines in the world in 2011 – another first for a South African wine. Most recently, the MR de Compostella 2012 was the first South African red wine to be chosen for Emirates First Class.
The name de Compostella (meaning “field of stars”) was chosen to reflect the fact that the wine is a blend of components that were crafted to stand alone as world class varietal wines.
