Crystallum Wines is a small, family run winery based in the Walker Bay region of South Africa. The maiden vintage was released in 2007 by custodian brothers Andrew and Peter-Allan Finlayson. The first release of Crystallum wines consisted of about 4000 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc. In 2008, they introduced Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, in which they now specialize exclusively. Since then, their wines have garnered an almost cult like following; and the market can’t get enough of their New World twist on the classic styles of Burgundy.
These award winning wines are produced in cool climate Walker Bay. To those familiar with the industry, the mention of Walker Bay might bring to mind the name of a certain Bouchard Finlayson. Pioneering the production of fine Pinot Noir from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, he has been credited by many as the father of Walker Bay, for “putting it on the map”, so to speak. He also happens to be Andrew and Peter-Allan’s father! As third generation winemakers of the Finlayson family, one could say that the range is a coming of age story for the brothers. Vintage after vintage they continue to establish themselves in their own right, using the platform created by those who came before them, but making it their own.
Says the brothers: “We seek to produce classic wines in a new world context that reflect a traditional, age-old way of working coupled with the new world vineyards which we source our fruit from.”
Their approach has paid off. The newly released 2018 edition of the Tim Atkin MW report has awarded the range in full, with all 6 wines receiving more than 93 points in this latest report. Four of the lot are also considered to be among the best of the year, according to Tim Atkin MW.
The anticipated new vintage of Crystallum was released in July, but we decided to hold back our allocation until later the year, to reward the patient seekers out there!
So now we can say the following: We are proud to introduce the much anticipated AWARDED new release of Crystallum Wines, much of which is exclusively available at Cybercellar!
