This month, the #LIQUIDSOCIAL wine club packs were curated by Corlea Fourie, manager of wine and viticulture at Bosman Family Vineyards. With a rich family heritage and history of excellent wines, there is a general consensus in the industry that Bosman Family Vineyards can be credited for putting the small wine valley of Wellington on the map.
While she does not carry the Bosman name, Corlea has been calling the farm her home for over 12 years.
She has been intrigued by the world of wine since childhood. She found it fascinating that a liquid, essentially grape juice, could be manipulated to smell and taste of all sorts of different flavours of the world, like strawberries, liquorice and chocolate. She was keen to know why.
How she found her love for wine
As a student, she excelled at subjects like biology and physical science, which made it a no-brainer that she wanted to study something related to those fields. The problem was that she absolutely detested the physical limitations presented by labs and office space.
A gap year in the hospitality industry in Scotland & Britain opened up doors to the social connection behind the science of wine. The penny dropped and here she is 20 years later, manning the operation at Bosman Family Vineyards as manager of Viticulture and Wine.
Her formal education includes a bachelors degree in Science with Oenology and Viticulture as main subjects from Stellenbosch University. As lead viticulturist and winemaker, she is involved in every step of the journey from grape to glass. From the inception of new vineyards to guiding them to become the best grapes they can be; all the way through to making the wine according to the quality standard the world has come to expect from Bosman.
Bosman is also home to one of the biggest vine nurseries in the Southern Hemisphere, where they graft new scions and rootstocks to create supply vines to vineyards all across the world.
