With every new year comes new resolutions. One of our big resolutions for the new year is to keep up with the best of the best when it comes to investment wines. We want to know what’s worth cellaring up on and what gives a wine its iconic investment status. Here is a list of the new releases we are most excited for this year. Keep your eyes peeled for exclusive online releases of these throughout the year. They’re sure to sell out fast.
Kanonkop Paul Sauer
This wine achieved iconic status in 2018 when Tim Atkin MW awarded it 100 points – the first wine in the New World to receive this recognition! When the news came about, it flew off the shelves. Within a week the 100-point 2015 vintage was sold out. This year wine lovers will keep their eyes open for the new release. If the 2016 vintage is released this year, it is sure to sell out fast. Everyone will want to get their hands on it, even if it is only to compare it to its 100-point predecessor.
Klein Constantia Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine
This wine inarguably put South African wine on the map internationally. It is said to have been enjoyed by the ancient rich and powerful. Influential historical figures like Napoleon and Frederick the Great is said to have waxed lyrical about its pleasures. This is a truly iconic South African investment wine due to the sheer heritage and legend attached to its production.
Waterford The Jem
Each year, this master blend from Waterford Wine Estate is made from different red varietals that epitomise the best of the vintage. That being said, production is not possible each year. If the quality criteria are not up to standard, no new release will take place. This is why it is seen as an investment to secure a bottle of each vintage that is released. The goal of The Jem is to truly express the diversity of the terroir at Waterford, and more specifically the soils.
