Dreaming to be a winemaker as a young boy, Warren Ellis started helping his dad Neil in the winery at a very young age. He holds both a BSc and MSc in Viticulture and Oenology from the University of Stellenbosch and has travelled the world doing research on cellar technology and viticulture. He currently fills the position as winemaker and viticulturist at Neil Ellis Wines in Stellenbosch.
Luvo Ntezo is internationally recognized as one of the Best Young Sommeliers in Africa, winning first place in the prestigious Young Sommelier category in the national Chaîne des Rôtisseurs competition in South Africa and going on to place an impressive fourth in the world in the international Chaîne des Rôtisseurs competition in Vienna. Luvo’s won a string of awards at The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa where he was based for six years and is currently the Head Sommelier at One&Only in Cape Town.
A limited release wine demonstrating the distinctiveness of specific vineyard sites from Piekenierskloof and Groenekloof that represent SA’s finest quality. The mountain vineyards of Piekenierskloof are known to produce outstanding Grenache and is sourced from 59 year old bush vines in the Piekenierskloof. The Cinsaut is harvested from 30 year old bushvines in Groenekloof which faces South-West. These Cinsaut berries are smaller than usual because of the South-Western winds impact on the grapes.
50% Grenache, 30% Cinsaut noir and 20% Syrah
Fermentation initiated in stainless tanks and underwent a series of punch downs before completion of fermentation and malolactic fermentation in the barrel. This wine spent 16 months in 20% 1st fill French oak and the balance was in older 500L barrels. Bottled in August 2014.
Dark, vibrant and crimson in colour. This wine portrays a complex mix of fruit red and dark cherries, mulberries and cranberries with a spicy undertone and subtle vanilla nuances . The palate is bright and youthful with black and sour-cherry flavours with hints of liquirice. The Soft, fine grained tannins mirrors the vintage conditions.
