We love this time of the year as we cannot think of a more perfect time to start popping the corks on our favourite crisp whites, dry roses and bubbled MCC. In celebration of spring, we have put together our top six favourite wines for you cheers to the warmer weather.
This bubbled red is best served crisp and cold and is something different to serve on a spring afternoon. A Pétillant Shiraz, this wine has been awarded a double gold medal at the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America Show. It comes straight from the gorgeous Sols Delta estate, just outside Stellenbosch. The estate is soaked in history and offers some of the finest wines of the region, together with some decadent dishes at their restaurant. Light, fresh and fruity, this enchanting wine is the perfect easy drinking red is delicate and delicious and has the added bonus of being low in alcohol. Recognized as one of the Standard Bank Top 10 Chenin Blanc Awarded wines, this Chenin demonstrates everything a Chenin should be. Concentrated aromas of lime, winter melon hit the nose while the palate demonstrates layers of nuts and herbs on the palate. French oak wood flavours adds to the complexity of the wine and the finish is a creamy mouth feel with an elegant, long fresh finish. Demi-Sec is a distinctive style of Méthode Cap Classique that is the closest in style to how the first famous sparkling wines of France were experienced a century ago. It is elegant and refreshing with a cream, fine mousse finish. Boasting expressive aromas of baked apple, almonds with a deeper expression of lemon curd and marzipan, this highly complex MCC, makes up the perfect palate. It whispers of a time when wine lovers looked for rich, sweet wines and is the perfect bottle to pop on a warm Saturday afternoon. The name is derived from the picking of the grapes at night and in the early morning during the beginning of the harvest season. Named after the critically endangered Red Stumpnose fish, the Bruwer family, who loves fishing, made this wine as a tribute to the ocean and summer holidays spent on the coast. Frustrated with never finding the perfect wine to pair with fish, the Bruwer’s decided to make it themselves – A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Pinot Gris, this is an ample wine bursts with citrus, pampelmousse and a hint of spice. A portion of the Sauvignon Blanc component was barrel fermented in old 600l barrels – rounding out the wine and adding some backbone to the blend.
