An emphasis on sustainability, Backsberg Wine Estate’s reputation precedes it as an amazing producer of wine. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Back family purchased the farm and began using it for a variety of means including livestock, grains, fruit, and later wine. The wine farm originally produced wine for KWV and exported their wine to France and England during World War II. After selling the official name of “Back’s Wines”, Sydney Back registered “Backsberg” as the wine estate’s new name in 1969. Now under the careful leadership of Sydney Back’s son, Michael, the Backsberg Estate Cellars have flourished. Backsberg specialises in their Family Reserve Range, Black Label Range, Mediterranean Range, Premium Range, Kosher Range, Tread Lightly by Backsberg, fortified and sweet wines, and finally golden brandy.
