From a vineyard high on the Helderberg Mountain overlooking False Bay, the Stellenbosch Chardonnay has citrus and flinty aromas. The palate is packed with lime zest and crushed shells and has a textured, vibrant and long finish. Although beautiful now, it will age gracefully.
Whereas the 2015 Leeu Passant maiden vintage was all about tightly coiled freshness and structure, the 2016s have a more generous body supporting great structure, reflecting the drier vintage conditions. Following the maiden vintage release of both a Franschoek and Stellenbosch Chardonnay, in this, the 2016 vintage, they chose to focus on only the one which best expressed the unique site and the philosophy of Leeu Passant, being the Stellenbosch Chardonnay.
