We recently tasted through the wines of a young estate in the Breedekloof that is doing things a little differently. "Less is more" is the motto of their winemaker, who is year on year refining their wine style to one of incredible elegance and restraint and is fast becoming noticed by the critics for this. This, an older, 2014 vintage, Chenin blanc, was produced in a slightly richer style with fruit from various regions - Darling, Breedekloof, Botrivier and the Swartland. As a result, the flavour profile ranges from fresh green melon to ripe yellow fruit and a honeyed, bees-wax texture with a subtle note of minerality. Extended lees contact lends it a great texture and some weight, which along with a good acidity, has carried it well through a few years of bottle age. Drink now.
