Cucumis metuliferus, Africa’s colourful, delightfully spikey Wild Cucumber*, contributes to a
delightfully complex gin.
The nose is distinctively fresh with clear green herbaceous notes. The alcohol is soft and smooth.
Being wild, Cucumis results in a gin that has more distinctive green notes and more complexity than
a traditional cucumber gin. On first impressions there is a green astringency on the side of the
tongue followed by clear cucumber over the top of the tongue. The overall impression is a fresh,
gree, complex pallet complemented by floral notes - from Buddleja salvifolia, the Bushveld’s sweet-
scented ‘Butterfly Bush’, so named because of the masses of butterflies it attracts each spring.
