Previously the Vondeling Erica Shiraz, this wine has been renamed to Monsonia Shiraz, in honour of "Monsonia speciosa", a rare and endangered flower indigenous to the Paardeberg - home of Vondeling Wines. This luxurious, dark red-purple wine has a nose rich with sweet blackcurrants and ripe plums, intertwined with dashes of spicy nutmeg, coriander seeds and cloves. On the full-bodied palate, the wine feels viscous and weighty with powdery tannins. Black pepper and spice flavours abound, leading to an aftertaste so long it feels like a marathon!
This exceptional red makes a great accompaniment to rich Burgundy-style beef casserole or a barbequed de-boned leg of lamb.
