Sutherland Vineyards
In his search for a complementary wine estate, Gyles Webb of Thelema Mountain Vineyards purchased an apple farm in cool coastal Elgin in 2002. The farm was called Sutherland. Located about 70 km south east of Cape Town in the Overberg region, Sutherland is set on a high plateau surrounded by mountains and just 9km from the Indian Ocean. This altitude and proximity to the ocean ensure the cool climate which gives these wines their distinct freshness of fruit, bright acidities, fine tannin structures and incredible finesse.
